I am writing because a few years ago, ten to be exact, I received several credit cards while attending college. I tried desperately to pay it back but the over the limit fee caused by the late fee was killing me financially. I paid every month but my balance didn’t go anywhere. Soon afterwards I found out I was pregnant and I fell ill. I was in the hospital on and off for almost a year before the doctors realized what was wrong. A few years later I started working and I applied for credit and found that I had a judgement agaisnt me. I didn’t know what a judgement was at the time. It was for one of those stupid credit cards that I had years before. I was stunned. I tried to make arrangements to pay it but they would not accept the payment that was listed on my credit. It was and still a nightmare. I wasn’t aware of a court hearing because I no longer lived at the resident in which they claimed to have served me papers. On my credit it stated my address. Now I can’t find anyone who can give me any answers. I know I owe them money but when I told them I was ill and couldn’t work thanks to our hospital finest taking a year to make a diagnosis. I had absolutely nothing. The account has been charged off and I have made attempts to pay this judgement off but no luck. I can’t afford to pay forever for something that I did ten years ago. What if anything can I do?
It sounds like you need to contact a lawyer or a financial consultant of some kind. Since you want to get this taken care of that counts for a lot.
A financial or debt specalist should be able to help you to get something set up so you can pay all or part of what you owe and make this bad experience go away.
